(PT)Physical Therapy is a type of treatment often used when health problems make it hard to move around and do everyday tasks. It is an extended process that serves to help you move better and may relieve pain. It also helps improve or restore your physical function and your fitness level, which helps with pain relief in many cases. Physical therapy may be used alone or with other treatments.

The goal of physical therapy is to make daily tasks and activities easier. For example, it may help with walking, going up stairs, or getting in and out of bed.

Procedure

Our physical therapist will work with you on a treatment plan. The goals are to help your joints move better and to restore or increase your flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination, and/or balance. First, we will try to reduce your pain and swelling. Your physical therapist also may use manual therapy, education, and techniques such as heat, cold, water, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation. Physical therapy almost always includes exercise. It can include stretching, core exercises, weight lifting, and walking.

Our physical therapist may teach you an exercise program so you can do it at home. Treatment may cause mild soreness or swelling. This is normal, but let us know if it bothers you.

Benefits

The goal of physical therapy is to make daily tasks and activities easier. For example, it may help with walking, going up stairs, or getting in and out of bed.

Physical therapy can help with recovery after some surgeries or injuries. Your doctor may suggest physical therapy for injuries or long-term health problems such as arthritis.

  • Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression (NSSD) is an effective treatment for neck and back pain, from disc disease, to arthritis, to sciatica and more. Spinal Decompression slowly lengthens and takes pressure off the tissues in the spine, creating negative pressures within the disc. This vacuum effect pulls oxygen and nutrient-rich fluids back into the disc space. This process also repositions the bulging disc and pulls the disc material back into place, taking pressure off sensitive structures like our nerve roots. By doing this, Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression is actually able to recruit the body's own healing mechanisms to enable the spine to heal itself.

  • Our clinic is spine-focused and a manual clinic, meaning our therapists are trained in hands-on-techniques which can reduce your pain by helping align your spine and joints by getting them out of repetitive dysfunctional positions. Exercises are then introduced to improve flexibility and range-of-motion, to support and stabilize your spine and hips to promote a healthy spine and improved quality of life. Quality Physical Therapy involves exercise, but does not solely rely on exercise to get your better. Physical Therapy is an avenue to recovery from pain, injuries, and physical conditions that affect your body from performing correctly.

  • You will be fitted with an adjustable harness designed to achieve comfortable decompression of the spine - a pelvic harness for the lumbar spine and a specialized foam head support for the cervical spine. The computer inside our table continuously monitors tension forces and the exact angle of tension to provide the most comfortable and effective decompression therapy. The machine has sensors that are able to detect and adjust for the most subtle of movements, spasm, or involuntary guarding effect from your muscles. The treatment process is safe and relaxing. Many patients report relief from their pain and other symptoms during the first few treatment sessions, and most experience dramatic pain relief after completion of their prescribed program of NSSD.

  • At your initial visit to Carolina Spine and Disc Center, you will receive a complete physical exam by Dr. Talerico. He will review your symptoms and go over your MRI or X-Ray images to determine if you are a candidate for Spinal Decompression. If you are a candidate, he will determine which of our most effective treatment modalities will best fit your needs.

"I am a mother of 3 and business owner under the age of 40. I have a very demanding lifestyle and I like it that way. Unfortunately, my back and neck pain had been setting me back on a regular basis and I was getting behind in my household and business responsibilities. Not to mention, I started gaining weight due to lack of motiviation to go to the gym or exercise because of the extreme pain I was experiencing from degenerative discs in my neck and scoliosis. The lifestyle I loved, seemed harder and harder to keep up with. Then I saw an ad online for Carolina Spine and Disc Center. Finally, a non-surgical procedure and with an 86% success rate! I called and made an appointment that day and they got me in the same day. I have been going for months now and I cannot believe how much better I feel. It really does work! Thank you Dr. Talerico and Travis for giving me not only pain relief but a permanent solution to my neck and back pain so that I can get back to living!".
