(NSSD)Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression, also known as Spinal Decompression is effective in treating back pain, neck pain, and sciatica caused by bulging, herniated, and degenerative discs or facet syndrome. Even post-surgical patients and those suffering from certain types of stenosis (a narrowing of the spinal canal) have reported significant pain relief from NSSD treatments. So if you are suffering from chronic neck or low back pain now there is hope for lasting relief with NON-SURGICAL Spinal Decompression!

Over a series of relaxing treatment sessions, patients can experience powerful pain reduction and remission of symptoms. Some patients even notice an improvement in their symptoms after the first few treatments!

Unlike Anything You've Ever Experienced

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression, not to be confused with linear traction, slowly lengthens and decompresses the spine, creating negative pressures within the discs. This reversal of pressure creates an intradiscal vacuum that helps to reposition bulging discs and pull extruded disc material back into place, taking pressure off pinched nerves. Spinal experts believe that nutrients, oxygen, and fluids are drawn into the disc to create a revitalized environment conducive to healing.

Experts agree that Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression stimulates the body's repair mechanism, providing the building blocks needed to mend injured and degenerative discs. NSSD enables the body to get to work and heal itself! Now there truly is hope for lasting reliefe without drugs, injections or surgery!

What to Expect at Your First Consultation

During your initial consultion with Dr. Talerico, he will review your medical history and study any images (X-rays and MRI's) you have to determine which of our most effective treatment modalities will best fit your needs! If you do not have any images, Dr. Talerico may recommend and X-ray or MRI to pinpoint the specific areas of damage and discomfort. Dr. Talerico will then determine your course of therapy and whether you are a candidate for Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression (NSSD).

The Pressure is Off!

At the beginning of each session, you will be comfortably fitted with a pelvic harness for lower back decompression or a head band for neck decompression. As a session of NSSD commences, you will notice a slow lengthening in your spine as your discs are gradually decompressed and relieved of pressure.

The treatment process is safe and relaxing. While some patients with extensively injured discs have reported mild discomfort during the first few treatment sessions, their discomfort subsides upon subsequent visits. A patient safety switch, or quick release clasps as well as a button to notify a nurse or assistant are provided, allowing you to stop treatment at any point should you feel discomfort. Each treatment session lasts about 20 minutes.

Typical Treatment Regimen

A typical NSSD treatment regimen consists of about 20 sessions over four to six weeks. Some conditions require fewer visits; some require more. Many patients report relief from their pain and other symptoms during the first few treatment sessions, and most experience dramatic pain relief after completion of their prescribed NSSD program.

More FAQ's...

  • Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression (NSSD) is an effective treatment for neck and back pain, from disc disease, to arthritis, to sciatica and more. Spinal Decompression slowly lengthens and takes pressure off the tissues in the spine, creating negative pressures within the disc. This vacuum effect pulls oxygen and nutrient-rich fluids back into the disc space. This process also repositions the bulging disc and pulls the disc material back into place, taking pressure off sensitive structures like our nerve roots. By doing this, Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression is actually able to recruit the body's own healing mechanisms to enable the spine to heal itself.

  • Our clinic is spine-focused and a manual clinic, meaning our therapists are trained in hands-on-techniques which can reduce your pain by helping align your spine and joints by getting them out of repetitive dysfunctional positions. Exercises are then introduced to improve flexibility and range-of-motion, to support and stabilize your spine and hips to promote a healthy spine and improved quality of life. Quality Physical Therapy involves exercise, but does not solely rely on exercise to get your better. Physical Therapy is an avenue to recovery from pain, injuries, and physical conditions that affect your body from performing correctly.

  • You will be fitted with an adjustable harness designed to achieve comfortable decompression of the spine - a pelvic harness for the lumbar spine and a specialized foam head support for the cervical spine. The computer inside our table continuously monitors tension forces and the exact angle of tension to provide the most comfortable and effective decompression therapy. The machine has sensors that are able to detect and adjust for the most subtle of movements, spasm, or involuntary guarding effect from your muscles. The treatment process is safe and relaxing. Many patients report relief from their pain and other symptoms during the first few treatment sessions, and most experience dramatic pain relief after completion of their prescribed program of NSSD.

  • At your initial visit to Carolina Spine and Disc Center, you will receive a complete physical exam by Dr. Talerico. He will review your symptoms and go over your MRI or X-Ray images to determine if you are a candidate for Spinal Decompression. If you are a candidate, he will determine which of our most effective treatment modalities will best fit your needs.

"I am a mother of 3 and business owner under the age of 40. I have a very demanding lifestyle and I like it that way. Unfortunately, my back and neck pain had been setting me back on a regular basis and I was getting behind in my household and business responsibilities. Not to mention, I started gaining weight due to lack of motiviation to go to the gym or exercise because of the extreme pain I was experiencing from degenerative discs in my neck and scoliosis. The lifestyle I loved, seemed harder and harder to keep up with. Then I saw an ad online for Carolina Spine and Disc Center. Finally, a non-surgical procedure and with an 86% success rate! I called and made an appointment that day and they got me in the same day. I have been going for months now and I cannot believe how much better I feel. It really does work! Thank you Dr. Talerico and Travis for giving me not only pain relief but a permanent solution to my neck and back pain so that I can get back to living!".
